In this 2009 Wonder Con coverage, we’ll take a quick look at some celebrities and costume fans who attended the comic convention.
If you or someone you know is showcased here, please let us know as we would love to give credit to all who participated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To start off, one of the first people we saw when we entered the con was people in costumes! In this particular case, meet:
The Martians (Yips Yips) from the hit kids TV series Sesame Street.

If you decide to check out their main website, it's fancy!
Isn't that kid in the Wolverine costume adorable? Love his six-pack!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
What we found next are two Star Wars Bounty Hunters wondering the wondercon

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
When there's bounty hunters walking around, you can expect the dark lord of the sith and his fellow trooper around too.
Darth Vader and Sandtrooper (Stormtrooper)

Okay, since I am a Darth Vader fan and I own a costume similar to this, I will now take a brief moment to explain how fanatic these fans may be.
From the looks of it, the Darth Vader helmet this fan is wearing seems to be the Master Replicas Supreme version. That should cost at least $500. The upper armor seems to be Episode III fiberglass armor, and so should run about $200. The Chest Box seems to be of high quality and it lights up and blinks. Along with the light up belt box and belt (can’t be seen clearly from the photo) should run about $400. Let’s just say that the under suit is not leather but pleather, that should be about $150. The under-robe and cape are oversized and should be about $150 together. Then we have the gloves which if again, pleather, should be about $30. Finally we come to the boots with the specific Darth Vader shin-guards. Since these are hard to get a hold of and from the looks of it seems to be of high quality, they should run about $250.
There you have it. Let’s add them up: $500+$200+$400+$150+$150+$30+$250 = $1680!
Remember how I was trying explain how fanatic these guys were? Would you spend around $1680 on a costume? If your answer is “no,” then I guess we can all agree that these people are fanatics.
But I didn’t go through this whole laundry list of items to show how nerdy I am, or how obsessed they are. I did it simply to show the type of dedication and passion these people have in expressing their interest in this type of hobby. Believe me, it requires tremendous amounts of dedication because do you have any idea how hot or how immobile it is in the suit? Apparently I been in one for a certain period of my life.
Check out this documentary of an actor in the suit:
The same can be said with the Storm Trooper costume. But I am not the right person to go to if you have questions about it. As far as I can tell, the difference between a Storm Trooper and a Sand Trooper is that a Sand Trooper has a shoulder pad and is dirtier. :)
However, my knowledge with Clone Troopers is another story. Check out this video:
Moving on...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we walked across the convention floor, there was suddenly a mass of people surrounding someone. Someone in yellow. Someone that is not of this world...

You can't imagine the kind of attention this person received at the convention! People surrounded him like he was Brad Pitt. This person deserved every bit of it too. Will you believe me that he made this costume from scratch?
Compare his home-made costume to the CGI (computer generated image) from the movie.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Another person who received a lot of attention was
Black Mighty Morphin Power Ranger

If you are a fan of Power Rangers, don't miss the Working out with the Red Ranger Program produced by Kaise Pictures.
I also heard that Kaise Pictures has a cool Red Ranger Wallpaper Download section.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
After giving the Black Ranger a high-five, we went into an auditorium to participate in the Original Art Auction.
The following drawings were hand drawn on the spot by industry professionals. Can you guess who drew them? I’ll give you a hint on the last one. The first name of the person who drew Wolverine is Jim…
By the way, that specific drawing had an ending bid of around $800!

----------------------

Think that's a weird drawing of Batman? Think again! It's one of the new line of batman stories. Just check out the figure that they created to promote it!
It gets pretty cold in Russia doesn't it?
--------------------

Yes, if you love art, the comic book convention is a great place to be.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
As we left the auction, we were greeted by
The Huntress and Batman
Click on the link of The Huntress to learn more about the Birds of Prey myspace site.

If you are a Batman fan like me, you'll notice that this particular Batman is wearing the Dark Knight Version of the mask and comic book version of the jumpsuit. If you want to get extra nerdy... the Huntress is wearing the Dark Knight version of the Batman belt painted purple.
How do I know all this? I work as a production designer so I notice all these little details in costumes. I know... that's a cool excuse! :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
As we moved from table to table, we said hello to

He was there to promote his Elephantmen War Toys Comic.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Suddenly we heard someone yell "Halt!" As we turned around, we saw
A SPARTAN Supersoldier from the Halo video game

That reflective gold visor on his helmet is a very nice addition to the costume.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then from far away, we noticed a Stormtrooper. But what caught our attention wasn't the Stormtrooper but who was hiding behind him.
Take a guess... Who do you think is behind the Stormtrooper?

Die-hard Star Wars fans can recognize him a mile a way...
It's....
It's...

The person who portrayed Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga!
Although we were able to snap this picture of him, we were not able to thank him for saving us from the evil clutches of the empire and Darth Vader. The reason being that the line you had to wait to chat with him covered the room!
-------------------------------------------------------------
And finally, what better way to conclude our coverage with a life-sized statue of Yoda?
